RIFT Prime will get the 2012 Storm Legion expansion this fall

We may also not be in Telara, either.
Remember way back in 2012 when Storm Legion launched in Trion Worlds’ MMO RIFT? You can remember all over again this fall, at least if you’re playing RIFT’s Prime progression servers, as the expansion is on the way.

“The Storm Legion update for RIFT Prime raises the game’s level cap to 60, while boosting the crafting skill cap to the Grandmaster level. The update also adds two more continents for Prime subscribers to explore: Brevane and Dusken. The island stronghold Tempest Bay has been added as a new city hub, while a host of new dungeons and raids have also been added for players looking to hit the increased level cap. High level RIFT Prime players will also be tasked with taking on Volan, the mighty Empyrean colossus! Set loose from his prison and festooned in adamantine armor, Volan makes his debut on the RIFT Prime server to take on all challengers. Test your mettle against Volan’s metal in a battle for the ages!”

RIFT Prime rolled out last spring to rave reviews; at the time, Trion called it a “rousing success” with “thousands” of players subbing to the game to play it in its first month alone, even setting event records. If you went back for it, are you still playing on Prime?

Isn’t it coming upto two years since the live servers had their last expansion pack ? If they don’t get one out by the end of this year it will be the first time they have failed to get one out with in the two year period cycle I think . .

Most people I know playing Rift still feel like Trion has abandoned players of the live servers in favor of Prime .

I gave up just this February after playing since Beta .

Live’s last major version was late 2016, yes. So coming to two years. Live’s last focused update was 4.3 Crucia’s Claw, in late 2017 (T2 raid, endgame zone, purchasable soul/tree for mage, feature tweaks). 4.4 early 2018 was basically RIFT Prime (Classic), and 4.5 mid 2018 was mostly RIFT Prime (Ember Isle) with various tweaks for both versions.

So this is almost 2 years since a last version and almost a year since the last content update.

Things that might count as content are existing world events (Fae Yule, Carnival, Summerfest) and the added returning events (‘Grim Remembrance’) and reworking of Promo Events, but no content that sticks.

If Prime and/or a dev slowdown wasn’t a thing, this expansion would be well into T3 and wanting expansion news by now instead of hanging around a relatively sparse T2 and having no clue about an expansion. Not to mention 4.0/Prophecy of Ahnket’s slim pickings in terms of unique instanced group content (example: still only 2 real new dungeons, instead of NMT’s bunch, SL’s several, or Classic’s ten).

I’m still on Prime but at this point because of a won free subscription which ends soon. Almost Lv 50 (Lv 48) but slow progression as I try my best to complete all content and achievements pertaining to each zone as I progress. I may take a break until sometime September or October due to school and RIFT Prime’s Classic finishing up, but I can imagine events and certain content releases drawing me partially back in. If it does, I’ll likely be around Nov-Dec for Storm Legion.

I played it for like a week or so and then lost interest in favor of XIV and WoW. It was a nice little dip back into things but at this point it’s not really going to take me back into the initial magic of the game that pulled me in for a good year or two.

Doesn’t help that their cash shop was full of old mounts/titles that I own on the current version of the game but am required to shell out notable amounts of $$ just to get them on Prime.

I’m right there with you on the last part. I did enjoy myself during the month and a half that I played again. But Trion not really having a clue on how the original game’s XP worked really messed things up. I was grinding mobs to get XP to level up so I could get quests that were 4-5 levels… Even after they fixed it, I had problems with XP/quests since I had already wrapped up the ones that should have levelled me up further.

And I’m guessing Instant Adventures weren’t active, making it harder to grind it out.

Unknown timeline but mentioned recently enough:
– Tier 3 raiding (and not necessarily just an ‘Intrepid: Greenscale Blight’ but a new one)
-Tenebrean Trouble, a second puzzle dungeon
-planar fragment rework, various other reworking
-whatever basically finishes the expansion (as in its their intention to finish)
-datamined info showed a ‘Planar Disciple’ feature, looking like another combat NPC to join our characters (SWTOR/Neverwinter/etc?)
-possible new questline but unsure
-expansion is mentioned as a thing that sounds like its still in the cards, albeit not this year

TLDR; polishing, finishing this Prophecy of Ahnket expansion, new features – while Prime ends Classic and starts Storm Legion

Last I read they still weren’t ready to talk about what’s coming to live servers as of last week – http://forums.riftgame.com/rift-prime-vigil-discussion-reading-anyone-posting-patron-only/prime-vigil-news-announcements/506281-rise-phoenix.html#post5362280

It’s been 10 months since the last content update on live : /
