Path of Exile is launching buyable, moddable private leagues this week

Remember how Grinding Gear said it had a bunch of Path of Exile announcements queued up for the next couple of weeks, including the expansion announcement? Well, yesterday’s wasn’t about the expansion, but it is pretty nifty: Essentially, GGG is allowing PC players to create their own private leagues with their own difficulty mods and rulesets.

“We designed private leagues with the needs of two groups of players in mind. The first group is players who want a more challenging Path of Exile experience. The second is players who want to see how far they and their friends can get without outside influence from the rest of a league. Private Leagues will be fun for content creators who want to create an entertaining stream or video by playing Path of Exile on obscenely difficult settings, potentially alongside members of their communities. Philosophically, it’s important to us that Private Leagues don’t make the game easier. That’s what special events like Flashback, Turmoil and Mayhem are for. We’ll continue to run special events like these in the future.”

Players will be able to spend points (and even crowdfund that cost) to create their private leagues, starting with 10 players and 10 days, with more points for more players and days, up to two months (right now). The mods on offer include increased damage and hitpoints for mobs, reduced player resistances, no loot stashes, no magic item drops, no NPC vending, famine, and eventually, things like high durability loss.

Everything goes live this week, so stay tuned!
