Grim Dawn’s Forgotten Gods expansion has launched with new story chapter and Oathkeeper mastery

Crate Entertainment, take yourself a bow: You just rolled out another expansion for ARPG Grim Dawn. No, it’s not an MMO, but it’s got big fans around here thanks to its multiplayer capabilities and its similarity to games like Torchlight, Titan Quest, and Diablo.

The expansion includes a “massive story chapter,” new biomes, the new Oathkeeper mastery, the Shattered Realm game mode, transmutation, new items, a bigger stash, new bosses, new factions, and difficulty merits for those who choose to start on super duper elite difficulty modes.

Forgotten Gods is $15.99 on Steam, but if you’ve never played the game at all, there’s seldom been a better time, as the base game is on sale for $6.25, with discounts for its first two DLC too – which is good because you need Ashes of Malmouth to play Forgotten Gods itself.

Ok Grim Dawn is here because of its co-op but why then there’s no news about Borderlands 3 on this website? Borderlands franchise is famous for its co-op – much more than Grim Dawn.

Like Diablo*, but worse. Meh story. Also guns. I hate when the setting is swords + dawn of guns.

*D1 and D2 of course.

best ARPG out there. if youre playing that embarrassing disney simulator Diablo3…. youre doing it wrong. Grim Dawn > all.

edit: Path of Exile is ok but second place. Wolcen looks really promising too

I hate all the press POE gets all the time.

Grim Dawn and PoE seem to be quite similar but Grim Dawn is fun and PoE is not much fun. I don’t know why.

Wow, nice to see you cover this game here. I’M really surprised by this. But yes this game is really good and with such a small dev team. This update really is amazing and dang this game is just so much FUN to play. That is what I think some devs forget when they keep adding busy work and gimmicks to games to keep people playing. The dual class system and devotion tree really make the game stand out for me. I wonder how an Oathbreaker/necromancer spec would play.

I am having quite a lot of fun living out my Captain America fantasies thanks to the Oathbreaker mastery.

One of the major aspects of the mastery is flinging your shield at enemies and having it bounce around several of them Captain America style. I have no idea how well it scales into the end game but damn if it ain’t a lot of fun right out of the gate.

There is a lot to dig into with this expansion along with some nice Qol features to go with the new content so I might be here a while.

Aegis of Menhir…yes, absolutely loving it.
Started my Oathkeeper out on Veteran just to get the skill to 16/16, and then put 8 points into Avenging Shield, aka hitting 3 enemies before the shield returns.
Then switched to Elite, and now the dings just keep on coming.:)
Really chuffed with the expansion, the only minor complaint i have is how the Forgotten Gods area is integrated into the world map.
But i haven’t even felt like looking it up on the forum, too busy playing.
So perhaps that’s already been confirmed to be sorted in an upcoming patch.
Shattered Realm is tough as nails, i think i will have to do some char rebuilding somewhere along the line.

Oh i just saw the hotfix patch notes:

You can now disable Voice/Text Error Messages (ex. I can’t cast that yet), in game Options.

Hallelujah and all can rejoice.

Already picked it up, but I haven’t had a chance to play it yet. I’ve been busy in Median XL (Diablo II mod), and had to give Wolcen another spin since it hit beta yesterday as well, with big improvements all around. I’ll be getting some time in on Forgotten Gods over the weekend for sure. Oh, and don’t forget Chaosbane in June. A good time to be an ARPG fan. :)
