Want to be part of history? Then you’re being called to participate in the third phase of the EVE Online Aether Wars tech demo. Don’t like EVE or blowing up internet spaceships? Then languish in mediocrity, plebe.
I’m sorry, that was rude and I didn’t mean it.
For those who do want to join in, the demo is available on Steam for anyone to download for free and take part. The third phase will begin this Saturday, November 24th, at 3:00 p.m. EST at the London O2 arena, where CCP and Hadean will once more try for the magic player count of 10,000 and a world record for most concurrent players simultaneously involved in a single multiplayer PvP videogame battle.
Readers will note that the last two tests fell short of that mark, and even went below EVE Online’s largest battle to date, but perhaps a freely available demo will entice more participation.
To sweeten the pot, there will be prizes handed out to two pilots: one who earns the most in-game currency and another at random. The lucky winners will be granted tickets, flight, and hotel accommodations for Fanfest 2020 in Reykjavik, Iceland, as well as an opportunity to meet the EVE Online devs face-to-face.
