Swords ‘n Magic and Stuff just fully funded on Kickstarter for $79,000

Swords ‘n Magic and Stuff just fully funded on Kickstarter, ensuring that I’m going to be looking up the exact spelling of this “casual, cooperative open world RPG” for the next few years of covering it.

Kindred Games’ crowdfunding campaign originally sought $21,950 USD but blasted past that goal to settle out around $79,000, with every stretch goal – including a new race, archaeological society, bug catching, and a Switch port – unlocked along the way.

“Explore a large, densely populated open world alone or with friends. Swords ‘n Magic is a casual journey of discovery. You play a blank slate adventurer just waiting for you to carve out a destiny for them. With no classes, levels or restrictions, you can be whoever you want to be, use whatever weapons and items you can buy, loot or craft, and play however you wish. You can seek out epic adventures laden with legendary treasure or enjoy the simple life of owning a small farm, crafting furniture for your home or even just traveling the world as a simple merchant. In Swords ‘n Magic and Stuff you play at your own pace with no hand-holding.”

Early access is expected in September.

After looking at the KS page, I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on this one, to see if it’ll come out.

But… still…. I’ve got to say…

DOWN WITH THE BLOCKHEAD ART STYLE!!!

I’m sick of it, it’s so unoriginal.

IDK, looks an awful lot like Minecraft with that character art style.

To me the Minecraft look only works in that game, and I can’t stand copycats trying to cash in on its success.

I mean, it’s one thing to make a game in a genre, quite another to copy the art style of another game.

But… the article sounds like it might be a PVE sandbox, or at least an open world multiplayer game without the classes and other stuff I don’t like about MMOS.

They don’t mention PVP in the article, but it doesn’t mean it won’t have it.

I might be willing to overlook the bad art style if the game doesn’t have open non-consensual PVP, and is instead a PVE sandbox style game.

Don’t trust KS anymore, but I’ll happily follow along.

I backed this and Book of Travels. This guy sold me on his story…I’m excited. But of course I won’t get my hopes up! I got the email this morning about making the switch tier. Hopefully it’ll have cross save.

I pledged for this one without really looking up much about the company this time. I just did a small amount I could afford to lose if it didn’t come to fruition.

I realized though that for a while now I basically only will join crowd-funding for stuff I see here. This is very often the only game news site I look at during a day, and I don’t go searching for new stuff looking for funding normally. I joined in with the past 3 projects only because I saw them get covered here.

I’m guessing that’s the way it is for a lot of people.

Back when Transformice Adventures was briefly on Kickstarter, it wasn’t getting enough funding. I think if they try again in the future they should try to get coverage on more gaming sites to bring in the funders.

Yeah MOP and RPS are the only two gaming sites I read regularly.

Keep in mind MOP reporting on a Kickstarter should be in no way seen as them endorsing it. Still I’ll be cheering this one on.

Yeah, I have the same kind of respect for Rock Paper Shotgun that I do for MOP.

Well that looks like fun. I don’t do Kickstarter but I’ll be keeping an eye on it any way.
