One Shots: Exterior design by nature

We’ve all witnessed plenty of examples of intriguing fantasy architecture and urban design in MMOs. But one style of design that I think is highly underrated is when towns and houses are fashioned in a naturalistic style.

This is why I picked Utakata’s Blade and Soul pic today to headline, because it captures a style that isn’t often seen in MMO journeys. Nature, bow to our will and whim! And accept at least 500 pounds of load limit!

Over in Final Fantasy XIV, Vincent is looking down upon us mere mortals and contemplating just how many ways we could be squished like the bugs we are.

“Crafting/gathering sets all done, just need to penta-meld all the tools. For now, just taking a breather and enjoying the view.”

Katriana shared this older picture of an adorable lake critter from Lord of the Rings Online: “I did get this closeup shot of this… creature… in Enedwaith a few weeks ago when running through there to find something.”

Let’s just posit that a dev was working out some residual frustration against a mother-in-law while creating this.

“I made a new alt in FFXIV, a Seeker Miqo’te named Z’tanis Mhaura (after the town of Mhaura in FFXI),” said RimaHadley. “The Thanalan region feels so much like a spiritual successor to Sarutabaruta and Windurst.”

And for our surreal moment in home decoration, Minimalistway found this odd locale: “Visiting random apartments in FFXIV is an adventure. I found this one turned into an art gallery, with the whole apartment full of posters and drawings.”

Sally forth, my noble screenshotters, and do us proud in the comments section! Take only pictures and leave only memories, remember.

Every week, One Shots shines a spotlight on the best community screenshots from your MMO adventures. If you have a great pic to share, email it to justin@massivelyop.com with the subject “One Shots.” Make sure that the picture is over 880px wide and comes with a description or story!
