The Daily Grind: Are you a fan of shapeshifter classes in MMOs?

Albion Online’s upcoming Wild Blood update includes a new weapon with a unique attribute: It allows players to shapeshift into specific critters. Also golems. It’s weird and fun.

But as cool as it is, I’ve never been much of a fan of playing shapeshifters. The first time I ever saw shapeshifting in an MMO was Ultima Online’s polymorph spell, but I didn’t really try to get into shapeshifters until World of Warcraft. It didn’t work, mind you. I liked mucking around with my partner’s Druid, but I didn’t really want to look at cat/bear butt. Tree butt passed muster, but even so, I never got into the Druid specifically because of the shapeshifting. I’ve never been able to enjoy my LOTRO Beorning either. And now that I think about it, I haven’t ever gravitated toward those types of characters in all my years of MMOs, even though I do like the concept. Huh.

Are you a fan of shapeshifter classes in MMOs? Which MMO offers the best example?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
