We’re less than a month out from the PC launch of Elder Scrolls Online’s Gold Road chapter, and if you’re still wondering what the heck the Gold Road is, today’s official dev blog is spelling it out for you, among other things.
ZeniMax Online Studios explains that the Gold Road is actually just one of three regions in the West Weald, along with the Colovian Highlands and Dawnwood, some of which will all sound familiar to you if you played 2006’s Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. The Colovian Highlands, for example, is a fertile region that plays home to the beloved classic castle town of Skingrad. The Gold Road itself is one of multiple main roads that spring out from the Imperial City in Cyrodiil; this one happens to run through Skingrad and Kvatch and all the way to Anvil on the coast. (This site has a fabulous updated map.)
“Both the Colovian Highlands and the Gold Road are primarily home to the local Imperials, including the wealthy city of Skingrad,” ZeniMax says. “From the rocky reaches and vineyards of the highlands to the temperate and well-traveled Gold Road, the area is ruled by Count Calantius, who shepherded the region away from the strife in Cyrodiil. However, recent events have introduced brand-new dangers and mysteries to the region.”
Of course, being fleshed out here is Dawnwood, a segment of Valenwood where a spooky new Bosmer-controlled jungle just spontaneously flashed into being, and the Wildburn, an area of jungle “corrupted by the clash of magic and nature.” So don’t think you know it all just for having played Oblivion!
