New World’s Aeternum open beta on PC and console has officially begun

As planned, New World’s Aeternum open beta has officially launched as of noon EDT today, welcoming all players on PC and console to test out the controversial revamp of the MMORPG – with proper crossplay between PC gamers and the newcomers on console.

The easiest way in for core PC MMO players is through Steam; you don’t need an invite, just a clickthrough to get access. The test is open for PC, PS5, and Xbox X|S players in the Americas, Europe, and the Asia/Pacific regions, and you’ll be playing up to level 30, following the updated intro with new archetypes as well as existing content like arenas and the Amrine Excavation. It’d be a good time to try out mounts, too, if you’ve never bought them (and you’ll need to buy Rise of the Angry Earth to play Aeternum itself once it’s live). Players who trek through 25 of the 30 available test levels will pick up cosmetics to bring home to their live accounts.

Our New World columnist Tyler gave Aeternum a spin during the press beta preview earlier in September and reported that the changes in the early game are welcome indeed, though it remains unclear even to him whether the game will find footing with the new console audience after months of neglect for the loyal PC playerbase. Nothing do to but wait and see now.
