Elder Scrolls Online teases backstories for its upcoming pair of companions, Zerith-var and Tanlorin

When update 44 arrives in The Elder Scrolls Online later this month, its most exciting feature is surely its two new companions, Tanlorin and Zerith-var. Both have now seen profile in ZeniMax Online Studios’ new dev blogs, though do note, these are very lore-heavy pieces!

Zerith-Var is described as a “stoic Khajiit” – and a necromancer. “Zerith-var is a formidable warrior, a master of undeath, and one of Azurah’s most faithful followers,” the studio says. “However, he now finds himself lost and in need of a guide and comrade-in-arms. Will you accompany Zerith-var on his journey of rediscovery and crusade against the Twilight Queen’s enemies?”

As for Tanlorin, they’re a “scrappy High Elf” whose Soul Magic plus Dragonknight abilities sound like a build scrounged from Reddit. I’m kidding. “Tanlorin’s past may appear checkered at first glance, but for those willing to investigate further, there might be more to the High Elf’s story to discover. Will you earn Tanlorin’s trust and learn the secrets of their quest and craft?”

U44 hits PC and Mac on October 28th, followed by PlayStation and Xbox on November 13th. The companions, note, are free for subscribers but require a purchase from the cash shop for free players, so don’t be thinking you’ll auto-unlock them for having purchased Gold Road this past summer.
