The Daily Grind: What was the best MMO emulator or rogue server in 2020?

Fun fact: We came up with “rogue server” last year in an attempt to disambiguate the word “emulator” and remove some of the whitewash from “player server,” and this year I saw another site use the term. Yay we made rogue server happen. Small victories?

Anyhow, last year, the  City of Heroes community saw no end of headlines after the game’s codebase was forced into the open and dozens of emulators and rogue servers sprang up around it. This year, several other pservers for sunsetted MMORPGs have won hearts and minds. Warhammer Online’s Return of Reckoning server actually snagged Twitch drops this year, while I myself am happily ensconced in Legends, the Star Wars Galaxies emulator that sees the backing of no less than George Lucas’ own son. It’s a weird but good time to be an MMO fan.

What would you say was the best MMO emulator or rogue server in 2020?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
