MMORPG “society life simulator” SEED – not to be confused with the other MMO called Seed that shut down 20 years ago – is officially rolling into early access today after nearly a decade in testing. Believe it or not, this game used to be a SpatialOS title. That’s how long it’s been chugging along. But as of this afternoon, it’s here.
“Everyone starts fresh on July 21st for Early Access! This is a massive milestone and we’re very excited to welcome everyone to planet Avesta,” Klang Games says. “SEED is a persistent, player-driven life and MMO simulation. We’re launching in Early Access because real society needs real people! Join early, enjoy a limited edition Founders Pack and get a chance to be one of the first to shape this ever-evolving new world.” At one time, the devs likened the game to RimWorld, but on a much bigger scale.
The latest patch is massive and includes onboarding tweaks, new dailies, a free initial territory claim, new islands, gobs of changes to stats and AI, unified chat, autonomous relationships, an economy rebalance, and even a dark mode UI.
It’s worth taking a peek at the MMO’s monetization, too. “[N]o fine print buried at the bottom, no mystery boxes,” the team promises in its FAQ. The game itself is $29.99 (€29.99), with bundles running up from there including things like character slots, premium currency, new characters, and experience. There is an optional sub, too, which “grants monthly goodies and more play opportunities.” Today’s launch isn’t on Steam, mind you, but Steam is happening later this year if you prefer to wait.
Launch is expected at 1 p.m. EDT this afternoon, and the new trailer and gameplay vids are below. Don’t let the cartoon graphics put you off; the cinematic is actually one of the more compelling MMORPG videos we’ve seen in a long time.
