I ask for “weather” in a screenshot challenge and you all give me lots and lots and lots of MMO snow. I guess we’re all in that frame of mind right now!
Reader Tyler sent in this adorable little picture of someone not buckling down and leveling: “Recently I’ve been revisiting Aion to check out the Awakened Legacy patch. At one point I ventured into an area with heavy snowfall and was delighted to see my character begin spontaneously trying to catch snowflakes and generally frolicking. I thought it was a wonderful little moment — more MMOs should be the effort in for things like this.
“As an aside, this is also pretty much how I react to snow IRL, except instead of an adorable quasi-Elf girl I’m a dumpy twenty-something man with too little hair, so the effect is altogether less charming.”
If Tyler would only have looked over to the side, he might have seen Toy Clown racing past on a giant chicken. And if Han Solo taught us anything, it’s that large animals transporting us across frozen wastelands are perfect sleeping bag material.
“Just the other morning my character and her chocobo were out for a snowy ride in Final Fantasy XIV,” Toy Clown said. “It was a celebration of sorts since I was finally able to afford a sweater.”
That statement’s going on the back of FFXIV’s box!
Zulika went demon hunting in a very familiar — and notorious — location: “A late and old/new/odd entry — Snowing in Hell…gate London. I was never sure if this was an MMO before, but it sure isn’t now so I am not sure if this counts. Anywho, the new Steam single player version is my current time sink.”
I’m including it because I don’t think we’ve ever had a Hellgate pic here before.
“It’s the Eye of the Vortex, it’s the thrill of the flight
Risin’ up on the back of my giant turtle”
*wipes a tear from my eye* Hirku, you… you are a poet of this modern age.
Above all of the weather and chaos sits Ryuen, who chuckles at our misfortune and manipulates global events without us knowing.
“Considering the title of last week’s One Shots there is no way I could hold back this screen from Elite: Dangerous, having just earned my Sol permit I of course had to visit Earth,” Ryuen said. “And before you ask, yes, I can see my house from here.”
This week’s screenshot challenge is what I’m going to call “old favorites.” I still find myself screenshotting places and things that I have seen countless times before, because maybe this time I’ll get a better angle? Or something? I’m betting some of you have done that too, so show us some of those pics you’ve taken time and time before.
