Betawatch: Ashes of Creation un-cancels the Apocalypse, Magic the Gathering Arena leaves beta

I'm fine. We're fine. This is fine. Everything's fine like wine.

What? Yes, we know that Ashes of Creation: Apocalypse was never cancelled, but it was a perfect chance to make a Pacific Rim reference. Besides, it was unavailable for a while, but now it’s back on Steam and elsewhere. Test as you will!

Meanwhile, we also bid farewell to Magic: The Gathering: Arena, which launched out of beta this week, and Astellia Online, which technically isn’t launching until after this column goes live but hey, let’s not split hairs. We also bid farewell to Eternal Magic, which is now in open beta and thus functionally into launch territory with the cash shop humming along.

And, just to wrap things up, a couple of quick bullet points to keep in mind:

And that’s the way it goes! We’ve also got our list below, so let us know what you’re playing down in the comments, or let us know if something jumped test phases. We always welcome the feedback.

As always, we consider an MMO to be in open testing if it features free, public signups and will server wipe prior to launch. An MMO is marked in closed testing if it’s running a private test phase that cannot freely be accessed by the general public; it’s usually under NDA as well. Early access and crowdfunded MMOs whose tests we deem legitimate will be included. So-called “open beta” soft-launch MMOs with cash shops, no sign of launch in the west, or limited interest for our readers will not be listed; we also do not list expansions, with occasional exceptions.

Yes, MMO gamers, you too can perform the unpaid quality-control work otherwise known as game testing! Check out Massively Overpowered’s Betawatch every week for a run-down of MMOs that are still on the road to launch, even if they appear to have set up a permanent residence in a shed called early access.
