As we close out 2019, we all tend to get the urge to look back at past accomplishments and feel proud, even if they are small. Crowfall has certainly made a number of accomplishments this year, as a dev blog from ArtCraft co-founder J. Todd Coleman recounts.
Coleman brought his mind back to the Crowfall Kickstarter and marked a number of things achieved by the team, such as unique maps with different campaign rules, seasons, and creature-corrupting Hunger, along with all of the player agency the sandbox provides such as multiple ways to win a campaign, then either bring their spoils of war to their Personal Kingdoms or bring them to the next campaign — essentially, the basic beats of the game’s original vision.
That doesn’t mean that Crowfall is finished, however. “We aren’t quite done, obviously, or we’d already be launched – BUT we should celebrate the fact that we’ve checked almost every box we set out to, plus a few odds and ends that we never expected,” remarks Coleman.
So what remains to be done? The War of the Gods update, which will be bringing proper guild vs. guild instead of groups fighting for the three factions of Order, Chaos, and Balance, seasons changing cosmetically, the ability for players to earn Divine Favor and advance their cities, and a Caravan System that requires players to band together to get materials needed to advance those cities. In addition, the team is due to add the Frostweaver class and introduce UI polish, but once those pieces are finalized, Crowfall will effectively be ready to enter beta and invite over 300k people in.
“I can see a very different future for us in 2020: we’re going to start to pull above that noise as it becomes clear that our vision is being realized and that we are really going to ship it,” promises Coleman. “We’re not asking you just to take us at our word on that – just watch. Most of the heavy-lifting is behind us, now we just have to finish what we started and polish it to a shine.”
