All the big news from tonight’s Game Awards 2019 event

Geoff Keighley’s Game Awards are not usually something we cover directly here on MOP, given that they branch far and away from MMORPGs and we have our own awards to contend with. But for the last year or two, a few of the games we care about have been using the event to drop goodies ahead of the new year, so we’re keeping an eye on the show tonight.

Specifically, Elder Scrolls Online and Warframe have both publicly promised reveals during the show, and Amazon’s New World has been teasing a big announcement for today, which we (correctly!) assumed is intended for the event (although it’s been a bit spoiled by the premature arrival of the Steam page). Even Fortnite is up to something. Last year, of course, the show helped reveal a brand-new MMO we weren’t even expecting, Atlas, so it’s gonna be fun seeing what else we’ll get tonight.

Tune in with us at 8:30 p.m. EST tonight for the event; we’ll be updating this post with the big MMO-related news as it happens!

9:15 PM EST – Nothing really MMO-centric yet, but the Xbox One Series X stuff is relevant, if goofy.

9:25 PM EST – Gearbox has announced “looter slasher” Godfall for PS5 coming holiday 2020 – not an MMO, but there’s co-op.

9:32 PM EST – Digital Extremes has just announced that Empyrean – and the long-awaited Railjack system – is officially live right now for Warframe’s PC version. More in our full post!

9:45 PM EST – Epic Games announced that as part of the Fortnite Star Wars promo, JJ Abrams will be in the game to chat, plus there’s a a new TIE fighter plus some key character costumes and other transmedia synergy nonsense on deck too. It’s happening live on Saturday at 2 p.m. EST.

9:50 PM EST – Remember when Riot Games announced RiotForge? It unveiled the first game being build under the system: Ruined King: A League of Legends Story for PC and console. It’s single-player, though.

9:56 PM – Brief plug for Cyberpunk 2077’s music. No new news. Music is fab.

10:09 PM – Apex Legends previewed its winter events.

10:25 PM – Perfect World finally put a name on the Magic MMORPG it’s been working on for the last few years: Magic: Legends. Here’s our whole post.

11:10 PM – Amazon confirmed New World’s 2020 launch – it’s coming in May. Check out our whole piece here.

11:15 PM – Convergence: A League of Legends story is the second RiotForge game coming.

11:30 PM – ZeniMax Online Studios has revealed the final trailer for Elder Scrolls Online’s Season of the Dragon – and the kicker is that the trailer also announces that next year’s arc, Dark Heart of Skyrim, will take us back into the province – and the province of nostalgia. More in our full post!

Thanks folks, time for sleep! :D

I like visual design of the new Xbox, but I can’t say I care for the name at all.

Still I suppose Xbox SeX is better than Xbone as a snippy way to refer to the system.

It’s happened. Bethesda has run out of platforms to port real skyrim onto.

I don’t like the Games Awards Show, but at least they showed some new games. They should have combined E3 at the Games Awards Show together.

Come to think of it, what REAL difference is E3 from the Games Awards Show?

You get a bunch of cool trailers all at once and we can see the cringiest, most awkward moments, all live.

The most important stuff today is an update for Control. Easily could be the game of the decade if there was multiplayer…

As I mentioned in the other thread. E3 is dead. The Video Game Awards is your one stop shop for what is coming in video games.

World Premiers for hardware and software, cross platform announcements and awards recognizing achievements in games beyond the AAA sales figures? Heh.

This is the show that E3 aspires to be.

Good reminder that I was going to have it run on my phone for awhile so I can get the Warframe weapon drop.

No I think they just said to watch at least 30 minutes of it.
