So we still don’t know whether the upcoming Final Fantasy XVI is going to have anything like multiplayer in it, hence why it’s still peripherally in our wheelhouse. We do know that Final Fantasy XIV director Naoki Yoshida will be producer for the title, we know that it’s coming to PS5, and now we know more about the world and its characters thanks to a newly launched website. We also know that the protagonist’s name is Clive.
“Final Fantasy XVI brings players into a world where Eikons are powerful and deadly creatures that reside within Dominants—a single man or woman who is blessed with the ability to call upon their dreaded power. The story follows Clive Rosfield, a young man dedicated to mastering the blade, who is dubbed the First Shield of Rosaria and tasked to guard his younger brother Joshua—the Dominant of the Phoenix. Unexpected events set Clive on a dark and dangerous road to revenge.”
The website takes a closer look at Clive, his brother Joshua, and their confidant and ward Jill Warrick, as well as some setting details for the world of Valisthea and its six kingdoms. Perhaps more interestingly, though, the website features notes from producer Naoki Yoshida and director Hiroshi Takai, the latter of whom previously worked on FFXIV as well as Final Fantasy XI. In Yoshida’s note, there’s promise of further details for the game sometime in 2021, but he invites fans to “have fun speculating, as we have a lot in store—not only for the newest entry in the series, Final Fantasy XVI, but for Final Fantasy XIV, too.”
