A lot of elements of the character creator in World of Warcraft changed when Shadowlands launched. This is probably not news to anyone who is playing the game now, of course; the new character creator was unveiled a while ago with the expansion pre-patch, after all. But if you’ve wondered about how the character creator UI was redesigned, there’s a whole article on the official site from senior UI designer Jeff Liu explaining the process from early concepts to the final product.

Liu explains how several elements came together, from the two different factions being split vertically with classes along the bottom horizontal to the short animations fplayed for each specific class. He also shares a look at some of the discarded ideas, like the original plan to have players choose a class and then a race rather than having both selections on the same screen. Check out the full article for anecdotes and some glitched creator art along the way.
