Back in March 2018, we first caught wind of Smalland, a multiplayer survival sandbox that sees players as itty-bitty sprites surviving in the scaled-up wilds of a forest area. Our last look at the title was in June 2021, when developer Merge Games showed it off at an E3 event.
Now, after several years’ worth of early access development and updates, Smalland is making its full release on Thursday, February 15th, on Xbox X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam or Epic Games Store. The 1.0 update will also introduce the survivalbox’s fourth major content update with the conclusion of the game’s narrative that focuses on a dangerous new watchtower to climb, the addition of events, new faction reputation features, and a revamped tutorial.
The announcement is being heralded with a brand-new gameplay trailer that recounts Smalland’s journey through its multi-year early access, while the game itself will cost $35 – a price hike from its earlier cost that went into effect at the beginning of last month. Whether that’s too high for you or not may depend on what the video below the break has to show off, but the game has clearly come a long way.
