If you’re a fan of the music that thrums along as you play Star Citizen, then you’re going to be getting some new audio treats when alpha 4.0 presumably arrives at some point at the end of this year. That’s right, a new star system means new music is being composed, which is the focus of the game’s latest video digest.

The video puts composer Pedro Macedo Camacho at the center chair of CIG’s over-designed video set to talk about his inspiration, his connection to music, and the general vibe he tries to capture with the tunes being created for alpha 4.0.

Whether it’s the “dreamy” and “adventurous” feeling of being at a jump point, the looming sensation of descending into Pyro 1, or balancing the beautiful with the threatening while on the surface of Pyro 3, Camacho has a lot of thoughts, all while the video below is sprinkled with previews of the music in question.

Longtime MMORPG gamers will know that Star Citizen was originally Kickstarted for over $2M back in 2012 with a planned launch for 2014. As of 2024, it still lingers in an incomplete but playable alpha, having raised over $700M from gamers over years of continuing crowdfunding and sales of in-game ships and other assets. It is currently the highest-crowdfunded video game ever and has endured both indefatigable loyalty from advocates and immense skepticism from critics. A co-developed single-player title, Squadron 42, has also been repeatedly delayed.
