Guild Wars 2 delays January’s balance update into February

If you remember early November, which I realize feels like 10 years ago, ArenaNet released a roadmap for the rest of the Janthir Wilds expansion, basically plotting out Guild Wars 2’s content chunks through summer. And on the January agenda was the skills and balance update, so that should’ve been within the next two weeks. But ArenaNet has now delayed the patch into February, telling players that it won’t make January after all.

“Our balance preview livestream is scheduled for January 24 at noon Pacific Time (UTC-8) on the Guild Wars 2 Twitch channel,” the studio announced last night. “The balance patch update has been rescheduled to February from our previously planned January release, and the preview livestream is scheduled based on the new date. As always, the notes will be posted here in the Professions forum at the end of the livestream.”

Guild Wars 2 players are professional grumpycats, so the general mood over on Reddit right now is “awwwwww OK well maybe it’ll be a better patch with more time and feedback.” We’ve also seen some speculation that the studio’s three-day power outage back before Thanksgiving had a ripple effect in timing that led to this delay, which seems like a stretch, given how long ago that was. Either way, we’re still expecting Lunar New Year festivities before the balance patch, so there’s something to look forward to, plus the most recent update also tweaked Lowland Shore wisps and Dragon Response Missions for the currently active Return to Icebrood Saga event.
