The Daily Grind: What upcoming MMOs are on your to-play list?

114

The other day I got into a conversation with friends about which upcoming MMOs were catching our eye. While I have more than enough gaming on my plate right now, I am fairly sure that Devilian will get some of that time when it goes live, and I am being weirdly tempted by Tree of Savior of all things. Project Gorgon always remains on my list although I’m waiting for a beta edition to really jump into that game.

Blade and Soul and Black Desert appear to be two of the more hotly anticipated titles on the horizon, although I’ll wait to see if there’s a huge wave of positive personal testimony when they come out. I own Shroud of the Avatar, so whenever that comes out I’ll owe it to myself to get my money’s worth there. As for Star Citizen, I am firmly in the neutral wait-and-see camp.

What upcoming MMOs are on your to-play list?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!

Nope, not me. It looks like it’s a house building and decorating app.

As far as I can tell, Devilian isn’t an MMO. It looks like a Diablo clone.

“Dogma: Eternal Night” and “Tree of Savior” for the time being.
“Dogma: Eternal Night” is basically the MMO World of Darkness was going to be until they pulled the plug on it and its what every fan of Vampire: The Masquerade wants (myself included). Its an MMO centered on a modern society whose politics are heavily influenced by the creatures of the night, unbeknownst to most humans. In a world where mages, demons, werewolves, vampires, ghosts and other creatures exists, humanity as a whole is nothing more than fodder, sacrificial lambs or pawns in the millennial power-struggle.
Here’s a list of pros and cons based on my personal opinion and what I’ve seen so far:
Pros:
– Good graphics for an alpha game
– Interesting theme – not many MMOs choose our modern society as a background
– Great for role-play
– No classes or level restriction ala Secret World
– Player driven politics and economies
– Based on Vampire: The Masquerade world by White Wolf.
– Great atmosphere
Cons:
– Sluggish and uninteresting combat
– Boring map designs

Black Desert above all others but I’m keeping my eye on Blade and Soul as well. There are a few others on the radar but I’m not following them as closely (like CU). The next closest was Bless but I’m not holding my breath on that any longer.

CU is the only game I’m taking seriously. For me it seems to be the only upcoming game to have some real gravitas to it.

Project Gorgon and Tree if Savior are the only things in my upcommi ng list atm. I’ve already backed PG but im not really jumping in much until the games had more development time.
ToS has been on my want list since before it was even announced xP As a Ragnarok vet its awesome to see a real successor that isn’t that crap they tried to pull off as RO2
