Here we are, in 2017! It seems a lot like 2016 and things are still kind of awful. On the bright side, David Bowie hasn’t died again. Also, Crowfall has proudly proclaimed that this will be its year. So far, the year has consisted of answering player questions and passing a crowdfunding goal, but it probably will include more than that. The year is young.
Other beta news? Yes, there’s been a little bit while developers get back from the holidays.
- The second closed beta test for Revelation Online has wrapped up. The developers also showed off foxes, which are the race that you probably want to play. It doesn’t matter that they’re not an option. Foxes.
- The team at Albion Online took a look back at the past year of testing while the beta rolls on. The next update is named Galahad and may possibly include grail-shaped lanterns. Just a bit of speculation.
- Is Ashes of Creation meant to be a sandbox or a themepark? The answer is both, and the reason is nodes. Whether or not that will work remains to be seen. Italics are fun.
- Origins of Malu has revived itself! Sort of. It’s no longer billing itself as an MMO, so that means it’s far less than it was, but at least it’s making forward motion on development. That’s something.
Of course, there’s a list down below. Same list as last year, really, we haven’t had enough time for any huge shakeups. If something is on there which ought not to be, though, please do let us know down in the comments.
As always, we consider an MMO to be in open testing if it features free, public signups and will server wipe prior to launch. An MMO is marked in closed testing if it’s running a private test phase that cannot freely be accessed by the general public; it’s usually under NDA as well. Early access and crowdfunded MMOs whose tests we deem legitimate will be included. So-called “open beta” soft-launch MMOs with cash shops, no sign of launch in the west, or limited interest for our readers will not be listed; we also do not list expansions, with occasional exceptions.
