Guild Wars 2’s Super Adventure Box begins tomorrow… with red weapons, without World 3

If you were holding out hope that this year’s edition of Guild Wars 2’s Super Adventure Box would come with loads of new content… better let go that hope.

The patch notes released yesterday reaffirm that the Super Adventure Festival will begin on Thursday, but there’s no mention of World 3, which honestly does comport with ArenaNet’s longstanding assertions that it was unlikely to expand it further, at least this year, as they’re working on a not-so-secret expansion.

However, if you were hoping for a new round of holographic skins, that seems assured, as the patch notes (and datamining alike) confirm the new Crimson Assassin set (they’re red). It also looks like there’s a fresh reward track for SAB as well as new cash shop buyables, including a new music box.

The rest of the patch is a motley assortment of bug fixes, the return of Basket Brawl, tweaks for SAB, tweaks for fractals, some new crafting mats, and the updated lockbox.

In other news, if you’re in Seattle, will you be attending the Guild Wars 2 concert tonight?

“These two concerts are dedicated to performing Maclaine Diemer and Lena Chappelle’s haunting score composed for ArenaNet’s video game, Guild Wars 2. The musical performance will be accompanied by conceptual design artwork by ArenaNet artists.”

Interesting that your feature picture is causing a huge amount of contention, but you make no mention of it. That sword skin is from GW1 and it is only available as a super-rare lockbox drop. You cannot buy it or earn it in any fashion besides gambling.

I’m okay with them making skins purchasable, even when they almost never put back piece and costumes as rewards in-game. But taking it a bit further and putting random number generation into the mix is a bit much, even for their sake. They didn’t need to do that. They could have easily made a back piece to go with it and charged $20 for the combo and made plenty of money.

you lived without it for 4,5 years and when you dont want to gamble, just dont. not buying keys is the way to tell anet not to put things in lockboxes. easy is that.

This year, I will finally log in for SAB. I’ve been away from the game every other time it’s been on.

Some nice fixes to a cheesy Thief build and a story instance, both of which should have been fixed ages ago.

I’m fine with no new SAB content as I barely ever played it in the first place. Keeping focus on the expansion is fine by me.

Boooooo! Is it really that hard to put some resources behind something loved by a bunch of their players? Heck, lock it behind Heart of Thorns, and I might finally purchase that horrible expansion.
