One Shots: How to go blind in one easy step

As someone who only has one functioning eye, I find that my vision is paramount to my quality of life and personal enjoyment. Plus, it would make playing MMORPGs slightly more difficult if everything was dark.

But I’m not everyone, and I have to allow for the possibility that there are gamers out there who are desperate to lose their sight but at a loss as to how to do it. With that in mind, I present SmugglerSteel’s one-step process to going blind in 10 seconds or less: Find the largest sun you can in Star Wars: The Old Republic and stare at it from about 20 feet away.

At least the last thing you’ll see will literally brighten your day!

“After the initial excitement of Secret World Legends’ relaunch, I stopped playing for a long time, leaving my poor Templar agent forever stuck in Blue Mountain hanging out with a Sasquatch,” sent in Jake. “But now with the start of Season 2 I’ve returned with the hope of (maybe) getting all the way through Tokyo so that I can see the long-awaited new content. Here is my character rocking some of my favorite ’80s-themed cosmetics from the original game.”

Reader Koshelkin went on a “little exploration tour of Pandaria” in World of Warcraft and filled up a folder full of screenshots. Out of them, I chose this one as the most eye-catching. There’s something about in-game murals and wall art that fascinates me, because it’s the game artists trying to show off a different aspect of certain communities.

Last week’s screenshot challenge for pictures showing off the “golden hour” in MMORPGs generated some beautiful pictures, such as Toy Clown’s snapshot of a Black Desert sunset.

“Does BDO ever have a Golden Hour!” he posted. “There are a few in-game hours where the game world is awash with vibrant oranges and reds as the sun begins its descent.”

Where do dragons sleep? Zulika Mi-Nam found out: “Still poking round in Neverwinter. Lots of dragon stuff going on there.”

Any time I see impossible architecture in MMORPGs, it makes me think way too much about the construction of such places. I’d really love to see the epic tale of how these dragons worked together to set up this bone-strewn structure!

I really love the idea of going on a screenshot expedition to take pictures around your favorite MMO zone, so why don’t we make that this week’s challenge? Drown us in pics of your tour!

Every week, One Shots shines a spotlight on the best community screenshots from your MMO adventures. If you have a great pic to share, email it to justin@massivelyop.com with the subject “One Shots.” Make sure that the picture is over 880px wide and comes with a description or story!

Favorite zone is a hard question – how do you separate the qualities of the zone from the graphics and asset quality of the game itself? Favorite zone from one game is much simpler.

And since I have been mostly playing GW2 lately, here is the favorite zone from those seen so far: Rata Sum at night. Mostly because of the sky – it’s nice being above the clouds.

I’ve posted shots of this zone before, so the challenge was taking some new shots…but hands down, Azim Steppe is one of my favorite zones in the Stormblood expansion.

I knew exactly where I needed to tour in SWTOR for this one. I will always remember my first trip to Nar Shaddaa. I was blown away away by the color and aesthetic. I always thought it had a very Bladerunner inspired feel, yet still did it’s own thing. We start from orbital approach to bevy of hives of scum and villainy.

My fave zone is a place where I’d like to live. And there is no better place in BnS then the peaceful beauty of the agrarian lands called Hogshead.

So have a look around, taste some of the food, and take a pig home with you if you would like. The natives aren’t all friendly, but there is no better place to be in all of Blade and Soul.

*Having trouble posting them all so… you only get a few.

My desktop is down…so no pictures for you today! No games for me either…

…just imagine screen shotting a gallery of dancing pigtails instead. :(

Down? What is wrong? We’ve got to get that thing running.

Off-topic: A user registry issue? Seems to have gotten corrupted twice within a 4 day period…locking me out of my desktop (among other funkiness). The one time is understandable, as I am using an older but still supported O/S. A second time suggests other things are at foot. Like a hard drive meltdown similar to a Trump Tweeting session. All I know after extended length of playing WoW, I turn my PC back on and the Welcome Screen is giving me the finger. :(

I do have this Pandaren Shaman who originally built my machine looking into this. This bear is surprisingly nimble with the fingers and machine knowledge, despite their size, fur and origins. However, this would be the third trip for this individual to figure out what the “eff” is going on. And threatening to take more “drastic” action with it. My pigtails are for seeing a hard drive replacement in the not too distant future to get working back up to stuff. /bleh

By far my favourite zone (aesthetically) is Vortex Pinnacle from WoW.
This is why:

A flaming scarecrow farm (Lit Fam!), the Aurora Borealis (wait, are they called that in Archeage?), a house with Tanahashi (the Ace of our hearts), and gliding into the city of Caernord (I could glide all day).

Edit – photos didn’t upload in the order I had them, so comments are confused :P
