EVE Online’s NetEase-backed mobile edition EVE Echoes hits alpha later this month

EVE Online is taking another step closer to mobile with EVE Echoes: Infinite Galaxy Mobile (yes, we know that’s confusing!), which CCP and NetEase announced this morning will run an alpha from August 26th to September 20th. The game was supposed to launch this year, though today’s announcement neither confirms nor denies that. It is indeed intended as an “authentic” version of EVE that works on mobile, though it’ll run on separate servers from those used by PC players.

“EVE Echoes is a next-gen mobile MMO game based upon hallmark EVE Online design principles, coming to iOS and Android. In EVE Echoes, players will be able to forge their own path to glory within a massive sandbox environment and forge alliances with other pilots from across the galaxy to shape the game’s persistent universe. Players will be free to engage in interstellar combat, resource collection, industrial manufacturing, trade, exploration as well as many other activities across thousands of planetary systems. Whether it is an empire’s rise and fall, or the change in the balance of power, the entire history of EVE Echoes will be written by its players.”

Alpha signups are live over on the official site, though it sounds as if there will be some hefty regional and technical restrictions: Oceanic players, it’s your lucky month, as you’re the first test audience here.
