Ubisoft is celebrating the first anniversary of The Crew Motorfest (aka The Crew 3) by essentially promising not to do it dirty the way the studio did The Crew 1.

Readers will recall that The Crew 1’s maintenance mode and multiplayer sunset was compounded by the company’s hamfisted efforts to yank the game from player libraries as if it never existed. The rebellion over this mistreatment literally sparked a new front in the games preservation war.

But now, Ubisoft has confirmed that both The Crew 2 and Motorfest will get an offline mode.

“We heard your concerns about access to The Crew games,” the company tweeted alongside a video that basically says the same thing with more words. “Today, we want to express our commitment to the future of The Crew 2 and The Crew Motorfest. We can confirm an offline mode to ensure long term access to both titles, stay tuned for more news in the next months.”

Of course, that doesn’t help The Crew 1 or its players now.

The announcement was issued in conjunction with Ubisoft’s The Crew Showcase 2024, where the studio promised plenty of content for The Crew Motorfest. That includes the Maui map, season 5, and “premium PvE content” in the form of “car chase gameplay” in The Chase Squad.

“Starting on 6th November, all The Crew Motorfest players will be able to roam the island of Maui for free, adding over 100km² of pure on and off-roading fun, which represents nearly 50% of O’ahu’s size. […] Season 5 is the first of the 3 added with Year 2, packed with free fresh automotive thrills for players to enjoy. It will mark the return of the beloved Made in Japan playlist, with Volume 2 introducing brand new neon races, events, and locations. New street racer squads have arrived at the festival, and they are determined to dominate the asphalt, putting players to the test!”

Incidentally, The Crew 2 is currently $1 on Steam, if you want to gamble a buck on Ubisoft actually holding to that whole offline mode.
