Brighter Shores confirms November launch date following October 22 closed beta

Back in August, we learned that Brighter Shores, the new MMORPG en route from Jagex and RuneScape co-founder Andrew Gower, was targeting November 5th for its early access launch – a delay, but maybe a wise one given how packed fall is for MMOs already. Well, what if I told you there’s been another delay – of exactly one day? Yep, Fen Research has bumped the early access date to November 6th.

“The free-to-play adventure will transport players to a fantastical medieval world where they can fight fearsome creatures, develop a diverse range of professions, and take on an abundance of quests,” the studio announced this morning. “Brighter Shores offers an innovative take on the MMO genre, using a classic table-top style with a new, ‘tick free’ game engine.” The MMO will feature table-top-esque isometric art, idle leveling, and a mix of “daring adventures” and the lifeskilling of “cozier” titles.

“Finding themselves in the small town of Hopeport, Brighter Shores players will start their new life as a town guard – the first line of defense between the settlement and the fantasy world of Adothria on its doorstep. They will quickly discover, however, that Adothria has far more to offer beyond the town’s walls. A sprinkling of quirky characters, combined with a healthy dash of humour, makes for an enchanting world – though it’s certainly not without its dangers. As they explore through a variety of environments, adventurers will unravel mysteries, and discover shadowy enemies plotting to unleash great evil upon the world.”

Worth noting here is that the game will have zero microtransactions, just a paid premium pass, but you’re very likely to want to consider that a sub since it unlocks specific zones as well as player trading.

A closed test is slated for October 22nd, followed by Steam early access (PC and Mac) November 6th.
