Massively OP’s 2016 gift guide for the MMO internet spaceships fanatic

While some of us are toiling away on the ground in plate armor while fighting furry monstrosities, there’s a whole world of internet spaceships STO-ing, EVE-ing, and SWTOR-ing their way through MMO space. Check out some of this year’s gift offerings for the best space pilot on your friends list!

Air Hogs Flying NCC-1701-A

No, seriously, it’s an actual flying remote controlled model of the Enterprise. No, not the one Kirk crashed on the Genesis planet, and not the one that Kirk was sucked out into space from into the Nexus, but the one in between those two. You know, the one that Sybok took on his quest to find Sha Ka Ree? Wait, where are you going? Look, the point is that if you are a Trek fan, you might want to pick this up. Meanwhile, I’ll be over here playing with my Millennium Falcon because I make my husband write the Trek jokes. The only useless lore I memorize is in Star Wars.

Drew Karpyshyn’s SWTOR novels

Speaking of Star Wars!

If you can’t get enough of the Old Republic setting, you might want to check out the four-part paperback series set in the actual game universe. The third installment, Revan, was specifically recommended both by MOP’s own Larry Everett and by the commenters on our “Books” gift guide, so it might be the right one to start with!

EVE Online Plex

Whether you’re looking for a way to pay for 1 month of premium EVE subscription or planning to trade it for several hundred million ISK in game, a PLEX is a great way to say, “Here, have more internet spaceships.” To quote Amazon reviewer R. Rollins, “Buy 6 plex. Put in shuttle. Undock. Get blown up. Lose 6 plex. 11/10 would buy 6 plex again.” Available in discounted 2, 6, 12, and 28(!)-packs. As of the press time, the packs are being sold through Amazon by CCP at the standard price.

Elite Dangerous novels

This multi-book, multi-author series is set in the world of Elite: Dangerous, where Elite pilots fly Dangerous internet spaceships around limitless space vistas.

Looking to limit your space vistas instead? Perhaps you would be interested in the Elite Dangerous: Horizons Season Pass, which will provide you with one full year of updates and Horizons but will evidently delete the colon from between Elite and Dangerous. Use with caution.

Star Wars: The Old Republic game time card

With the Knights of the Eternal Throne expansion coming out next week, you or someone you know might be tempted to return to a galaxy far, far away and also slightly longer ago. If so, you’ll be glad you have this SWTOR game time card, good for two months of premium subscription (and at the time of this writing, selling for $5 less as a physical card than as a digital download or subscription through EA). But is it really worth $5 to have to use your fingers to type in the code?

Don’t like these options? Head over to Amazon and search for your own!
