ArenaNet Lead Developer Colin Johanson has strong words in defense of Guild Wars 2’s emphasis on e-sports, saying that these programs are “extremely successful” and crucial to the growth of the title. “Rooting against programs like pro league is basically rooting against GW2 growing,” Johanson posted on Reddit.
Johanson engaged the community over the issue of PvP balance passes, saying that Heart of Thorns represented the first such update of many. “Balance is super important in a world where WvW, raids, fractals, PvP, etc., are key components to GW2’s success. And ensuring we have a new major balance update you can count on every three months is one of our keys to accomplishing that goal.”
He also addressed accusations that ArenaNet needs a better communications model by saying that most devs comment in their spare time and when projects allow for it. He did assure fans that plenty was being done to tackle bugs and that the team should be better about discussing those efforts.
