Guild Wars 2’s gliding patch is live alongside Lunar New Year festivities

Guild Wars 2’s winter patch is now live, complete with the promised gliding in vanilla Tyria and the start of the Lunar New Year event, the latter of which runs through February 9th. Players can also look forward to the enhanced squad UI, tweaks to support class rewards, Fractals bug fixes, and a crapton of class adjustments. SPvP matchmaking and WvWvW have also been heavily updated.

And don’t forget the overhauled Shatterer world boss! Massively OP’s Tina Lauro published her detailed hands-on with that event earlier today.

Enjoy the new pics and video below.

Esoteric Coyote I agree this one & Tina’s article about the Shatterer (World Boss) fight update, both comments are only in the 20’s after a full 24 hours, when 6 months ago they would have been in the 60-80’s.
I know I’ve walked away from GW2 but my reason is more personal. The graphics card on my 6 year old Mac just can’t handle the game anymore.
I am firmly in the I hate HoT camp but you can ignore the new zones & there is still a ton of fun stuff to do.
Have that many people around here lost interest in this game so quickly?

Yah, need xpac. You need gliding mastery and xpac is only way to get that.

So can anyone glide in the “old” world, or is it just for those who bought the expansion?

Yeah, there’s very little for it.
In a way, I guess it’s closer to so many GW1 festivities… get some random consummables and that’s about it. Maybe we’ll get more with Cantha one day…

It works, it’s fun, it isn’t hard.
I suppose that’s ok, if all bosses were like that it would be quite nice. But I think that some sort of large scale control/damage like Tequatl’s fear would make it a bit more challenging without pushing it into Triple Trouble territory (which is a bit overtuned with limited communications…).

Now if they could start doing that to dungeons… I really want to go back to the Crucible of Eternity and into Caudecus Manor one day. But they’re just so bad…

Its a lot of fun and has removed an awkward barrier between newer, older and even future content. Similarly, as they are gliders and not powered flying mounts, they are a lot less of a problem for content creation.

Ive said it before and I’ll say it again. Just because you dislike content or rewards does not make it nonexistent.

Best side effect of gliding so far: it is once again trivial to get into the non-instanced Salma District.  Fingers crossed that things remain this way for the RPers.  Feels like Christmas.
