Destiny 2’s new Gambit game mode will allow join-in-progress and penalize quitters

This past weekend, Bungie gave Destiny 2 players the opportunity to jump into the new Gambit game mode ahead of its official release with the game’s Forsaken expansion, which goes live tomorrow. Although the new gametype, which offers a unique blend of PvP and PvE mechanics, seems to have been largely well received, VG247 notes that it wasn’t without its flaws.

Specifically, players bemoaned the abundance of quitters abandoning Gambit games mid-match, leaving their teams at a severe disadvantage from which they couldn’t recover, as the gametype didn’t allow players to join matches in progress to fill the empty slots. Thankfully, Gambit’s Senior Technical Designer Peter Sarrett dropped by the Destiny 2 subreddit to announce that when Forsaken launches, Gambit will not only allow players to join games in progress but will also slap quitters with as-yet-unspecified penalties for their cowardice. The Gambit gametype, in addition to a wealth of other new content, will be available to players when Forsaken releases tomorrow, September 4th.
