Ashes of Creation’s Apocalypse battle royale title is officially launching into persistent early access today as planned. As it announced last week, Intrepid Studios is calling Apocalypse a “standalone prequel” to the Kickstarted MMORPG that’ll be “both a testing ground for new systems and content in Ashes of Creation, as well as a unique multi-mode battle arena game where magic, steel, and chaos reign supreme.” Eventually, it’ll expand to PvP modes beyond battle royale.
Worth noting is that early access is free-to-play for folks in NA, EU, and Asia; you just need to register a free Intrepid account. Items purchased in the cash shop carry over into the future MMO.
As we’ve been covering for the last year, Apocalypse was originally pitched as a quick-start PvP alpha for Ashes but morphed into battle royale to test the MMORPG’s hybrid action combat system last year. This past August, the mode hit Steam for a one-day F2P event whose negative reviews suggested that anger and confusion from MMORPG Kickstarter donors remain. Our own PvP columnist, Sam Kashani, wasn’t watching the MMO at all until that test, which he thought was full of potential.
Kickoff for the early access is slated for 3 p.m. EDT, just an hour from now – will you be playing?
