A few years back, we retired our award for the best PvP experience in an MMO, largely because neither our writers nor readers really seemed enthusiastic about it. It seemed to our community at the time that PvP was a side game in most MMOs, so the debates wound up being about whether we preferred battlegrounds or battle royales to free-for-all -not really getting to whether the PvP itself was good.
Since then, of course, our staff has expanded to include several PvP-minded writers as well as a PvP-centric column, Fight or Kite, and MMO PvP in MMOs has definitely gotten a lot more interesting thanks to the heightened popularity of titles like Albion Online, the focus on mass warfare in games like EVE Online, and the promise of conflict in upcoming MMOs like New World.
