Chronicles of Elyria claims that over 90% of fans still want the MMO

As the saying goes, those who can’t make MMOs, talk about MMOs. And so it is with Chronicles of Elyria’s Soulbound Studio, which is spending some time this winter season dithering around with feedback forms regarding its phantom projects.

To put together a roadmap for this year’s development roadmap, Soulbound’s Jeromy Walsh sent out a feedback form to fans that accrued over 500 submissions. Sharing the results in a Discord thread, Walsh claims that over 90% of participants are still interested in playing the MMO when/if it releases, while a little less than half are on board with the Kingdoms of Elyria sim.

He also polled fans about discussion venues, saying, “Overall, there’s a slightly higher interest in the [official] Discord reopening, but not as much as I expected. Strangely, there was more interest in the forums reopening than in Discord.”

The poll results also served to remind us that at one point, Soulbound had six (!) Elyria projects in the works — and has delivered a grand total of none of them to date.

Chronicles of Elyria stunned MMO gamers in 2020 by announcing it was out of money, had laid off the devs, had closed Soulbound Studio, and had ended development on the game. Though CEO Jeromy Walsh later retracted much of that and said the game was still in production with volunteer staff, the gamers who’d backed it for $14M+ in crowdfunds pressed on with a lawsuit that was dismissed in 2022. Since 2021, the revivified but ensmallened team has focused on spinoff game Kingdoms of Elyria.
