The Daily Grind: What’s the least appealing weapon in MMOs?

A few weeks ago, MOP reader Bruno was joking with me about how crap it was that Hobbit Champions in Lord of the Rings Online can’t use the iconic Hobbit weapon, clubs. I joked back that it was for the best because clubs suck! Not mechanically, just… man, I just don’t like clubs, or at least I don’t love them in LOTRO, where the graphics often just make ’em look like ugly bowling pins. I said what I said!

But really LOTRO isn’t alone here; I don’t like most club type weapons in any game. Give me a quarterstaff, small blade, pistol, or spear any day. Or a bow! I was recently shopping for a new weapon in SWG Legends, something cute where I could stash a crafting attachment, and was reminded all over again that so many of the classic melee weapons in that game look terrible. Not Legends’ fault, but ug, stun batons? No thanks. Likewise, I tend to shy away from some of the weapon-centric powersets in City of Heroes because the weapons are blah. (I’m putting a Guild Wars 2 prank weapon in the header, and it’s ugly, but funny – I’d use it.)

What’s the least appealing weapon in your MMOs of choice?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
