Earlier this week, we dished out our “best MMO trend.” Today, I want to talk about the worst trend, and really there are a lot of them. Some of them are going to win the not-so-nice awards this year, and they deserve no less.
So instead, I want to pick out one that might have escaped your notice: A bunch of MMOs jacked up their prices this year, or at least suggested they will. Albion Online, EVE Online, and RuneScape all saw price and/or subscription fee hikes in 2022, while Book of Travels plans one for early next year. Mortal Online 2 also turned on its subscription post-launch. I am not pleased at all about it, particularly Albion, since Albion’s sub is per-character. I don’t like the trend, and I hope it ends here.
What would you say was the worst MMO trend of 2022?
