Trove launches Shadow’s Eve, revamps the newbie tutorial, and Releases the Kraken on console

Gamigo’s voxel sandbox MMORPG Trove is trundling into the Halloween spirit with the release of Shadow’s Eve today.

“It’s time for some ooky spooky goodness as MMORPG publisher gamigo announces Trove’s October update: Shadow’s Eve,” the studio says in its announcement. “This year, Trovians are tasked with helping an enigmatic Witch who’s turned themselves into their own cat familiar, taking them through Shadow’s Eve content from years past to help her.”

“Players can also embark on a questline that introduces all the parts of the events in the past interwoven into a new story. The witch will need a few tasks done in order to return to her true form: collect some ripe, juicy pumpkins, find a dash of Q’rsebane, take out some werewolves—you know, some typical ‘Shadow’s Eve’ chores. After the quest is complete and she returns to her creepy-crawly self, be sure to meet back up with her for your reward!”

Also notable this week is that console players are finally getting to dip into the Rising Tides: Release the Kraken update. The patch has been live in PC since early September, but now it’s swimming its way to PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch too.

Finally, it’s not super clear from the press release, but there’s actually a separate update today that isn’t just the console catch-up and Halloween. The patch notes detail a major overhaul of the new player experience and tutorial, a boost to mining difficulty, mastery UI tweaks, and easier mobs in tier 0 maps. Plus Gamigo approved a bunch of new style designs from players (we see a bunch of new spears, staves, and fist weapons!).
