The Daily Grind: Will New World’s big overhaul lure you back?

I have to say that I’m a little surprised at how little the New World preview earlier this week rippled across the MMO genre. When I first heard that Amazon was basically planning a reboot of the game’s 1-25 zones, with a revamped questing experience and maps and storylines, I kind of expected gamers to latch onto it as the kind of “save the game” reboot that pulled the likes of Final Fantasy XIV and Elder Scrolls Online out of the doldrums. It’s what I’ve been waiting and hoping for and even agitating for. But I didn’t see the MMO playerbase fired up. Kinda just the opposite.

Maybe it just needs more time to sink in and it’ll happen closer to launch. Maybe the Egypt-themed biome or new weapon overshadowed the announcement. Maybe the fact that the news came out the same day as WoW Classic’s Wrath of the Lich King launch just ensured nobody was watching anything else anyway.

You tell me. Will New World’s big overhaul lure you back?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
