Welcome back to another roundup of MMOs you’ve probably never heard of (but we’ll be impressed if you have).
Sneak Out
Sneak Out is for some reason listed as similar to Terraria on Steam. It’s not like Terraria at all. It’s much more like a game of Among Us mashed together with a wacky game of multiplayer Clue, layered on top of a social sandbox. “A multiplayer, cross-platform digital playground has been created where players can relive their childhood games,” developer Kinguin Studios says.
“Upon entering the Theme Park, players will have the opportunity to interact with others, ride wagons, complete tasks, and engage in various games. The central focus of this experience is a thrilling game of Hide & Seek set in a Haunted Castle. Up to six players can participate in the game, with one of them being randomly chosen as the Hunter. The remaining players must strive to survive within the Castle by solving tasks and evading the Hunter.”
We have no launch window, but you can sign up for testing on Steam.
ManaSoul
Celtaria Productions released ManaSoul into early access on Steam back in December. It’s a pixel art “MORPG” offering a “small-scale MMO experience” with an explorable open-world, guilds, PvP, and a unique gacha system that isn’t really a gacha system as it doesn’t cost any money. (We need a better name for this!) Reviews are mixed, with more than a few grumbling about grind and the interface. Incidentally, if the name Celtaria Productions sounds familiar, it’s because that was the crew behind the short-lived Leafling Online, which sunsetted a year ago.
Rise of Mythos
Anybody out there remember Rise of Mythos? Nope, not that Mythos. The other one. It was an old MMO strategy game from Gamefuse, itself a spinoff from an earlier classic. And thanks to Reddit, we’ve learned it’s back – in two forms. First, there’s a Chinese-only version, 火焰征程, on Steam, with reviews deep in the red. The same studio, Starlight Games, also released an English version called Kings Call (sic) on Steam on Christmas last year. Those reviews are mostly positive, but players are nevertheless calling out the monetization – though you’re probably expecting that from a game like this. Still, if you missed it, it’s back.
