Console Elder Scrolls Online fans are finally getting their first crack at Seasons of the Worm Cult this week as the don’t-call-it-an-expansion don’t-call-it-a-chapter-either paid content update officially launched for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5 this week, following the PC/Mac launch at the top of June.

As we’ve been chronicling, Seasons of the Worm Cult is technically just part one of a two-part content update that seeks to recap the game’s 10 years of storytelling even as it reboots its monetization system.

“In this two-part adventure continuing ESO’s original main quest storyline from 10 years ago, the dreaded Worm Cult has returned and is threating the island of Solstice, concealing their activities behind the massive and magical Writhing Wall,” ZeniMax Online Studios says. “Players arrive on the tropical island in Seasons of the Worm Cult Part 1 to explore the Western Solstice zone—there is no shortage of action and rewards to uncover with new World Bosses, Delves, a Public Dungeon, and a brand-new Trial: the Ossein Cage.”

This is paid content, mind you; players will have to pay the $50 annual content pass fee to access it. But concurrent with the paid update is the free basegame update 46, which includes the new subclassing system as well as the updated newbie experience and in-game map. The Writhing Wall event, which was originally expected in Q3, was moved to Q4, followed by Seasons of the Worm Cult part 2, also in Q2. In other words, there’s more Worm Cult to come, at least if you own the content pass.
