Pride Month celebrations begin in DC Universe Online, EverQuest, City of Heroes, and more MMOs

The month of June is Pride Month around the world, and that means that multiple MMORPGs and multiplayer games are going to be celebrating the rainbow of LGBTQIA+ identity, starting off with several stalwarts of our genre. Here’s what’s happening where so far:

  • We start with DC Universe Online, which is dishing out some new Pride goodies including rainbow cosmetics and the cutest little bee you ever did see. Plus, players can purchase previous Pride items from Poison Ivy with in-game currency. All of the items will be available until June 30th.
  • Both EverQuest and EverQuest II are once again handing out some new lions, along with familiars from previous years, for free in each respective game’s cash shop through the month of June.
  • RuneScape literally has a rainbow shark plushie. “This year, we’re excited to introduce a new quest-like activity in celebration of Pride Month! Help Rain at the Varrock fountain find their colourful friends, chat with them all to see what they are most proud of and gather them up for a parade! Join the fun and be part of this festive occasion!”
  • Overwatch 2’s Pride month festivities began earlier this afternoon.
  • The sandbox of Second Life has once again put together a collection of destinations that celebrate Pride, including an in-game museum and cultural center, festival locations, a transgender resource center to offer support and group discussions, and queer-friendly in-game neighborhoods.
  • The City of Heroes Rebirth team has kicked off an event that runs across June, with a rainbow in the sky Blueside and Redside and new dance emotes too.
  • Lastly, Star Wars Galaxies Legends isn’t holding a formal event currently, but the operators of the rogue server did share a message of allyship and support, talking up the game’s inclusive community and the importance of representation within Star Wars. One can argue this is more impactful than handing out rainbow cosmetics, but we’ll still take the rainbow cosmetics, too. Especially that bee.

Obviously this will just be the start of Pride celebrations, so if you have any that you’d like to share, either run by games or their players, feel free to post them in the comments. We’d love to see them.
