Kakao Games dropped its third quarter financials this past week, and it’s a bit of a mixed bag – especially if you were anxiously awaiting the next big thing in the ArcheAge franchise.
The company saw a slight increase in its revenue in Q3 compared to Q2 – 5%, in fact – but it’s still down over 14% compared to this quarter last year; Kakao attributes that dip to the “absence of new titles” in spite of “stable performance” from its big games. Worth noting is that it’s PC games specifically that are making up for weak mobile game sales.
And that trend will likely continue, as Kakao is Grinding Gear Games’ Korean publisher for Path of Exile 2, which is due to hit early access in December. The other key titles that MMORPG players would be watching are Chrono Odyssey (now slated for Q4 2025 instead of just “2025” as it was last quarter) and ArcheAge Chronicles, which has now apparently slipped to some point in 2026, marking what it at least the fifth delay for the MMO.
During Kakao’s earnings call, company reps told investors that they’re planning closed beta for as early as Q3 2025; they said that the game’s rebrand and reveal as ArcheAge Chronicles has been well-received by console players, but they didn’t mention PC players. That’d track with what we saw too, as PC MMORPG players are still upset over the loss of ArcheAge itself as well as Kakao’s plans to emphasize single-player content and eliminate the large-scale RvR PvP that it originally promised for the title, though it will still feature multiplayer content.
