One Shots: Hugs not drugs

This week’s edition of One Shots is brought to you by the National Hugs and Fistbumps Council, which recommends that everyone enjoy at least five full embraces every day, preferably without something creepy whispered in the ear. “I can feel your tummy gurgling against my tummy.” That sort of thing.

It’s also brought to you by Kawaii Five-O, who’s having some fun in Final Fantasy XIV. “I’m enjoying the Moonfire Faire festivities with a special someone,” she said. “While not an unplayable race, I do wish the Au Ra (females in particular) more closely resembled their early concept art that depicted them as being much more demonic and imposing looking and less of a cutesy human with horns and a spattering of scales.”

Continuing with last week’s screenshot challenge, other readers shared which MMO race they wish they could play as. For example, Miol seems won over by a particularly brutal race in Guild Wars 2.

“There are so many NPC races I would want to play as, but Ogres certainly weren’t one of them until now. Through the current preview weekend I was really surprised to see that they got one hell of a revamp!”

BalsBigBrother is enjoying Path of Exile’s newest expansion: “I am having fun with what is now my third build in the new expansion that makes use of a skill called blade vortex. That is exactly how it sounds: You cast a spell which makes up to 20 whirling blades surround your character. You then introduce this blade blender to the mob’s face for what can be some pretty pleasing explosions of gore.”

“When I was a little boy, I always wanted to be a Sasquatch. But I lost it. Don’t lose your Sasquatch,” wrote Hirku.

“The Guild Wars 2 expansion demo is live this weekend,” said Hugmonster, “and any normal person would quickly get in to see the new content. But I am not normal. I got stuck at how pretty the new login screen background is and how I can use it to take glorious screenshots of my characters.”

Because why not, really?

I hope everyone is doing fine! One Shots comment sections seem quieter than usual lately. So let’s liven things up by sharing pictures of things in MMOs that really annoy you. For me, it would be a massive gallery of jumping puzzles.

Every week, One Shots shines a spotlight on the best community screenshots from your MMO adventures. If you have a great pic to share, email it to justin@massivelyop.com with the subject “One Shots.” Make sure that the picture is over 880px wide and comes with a description or story!

This mission in SWL really made me think some Funcom devs wanted to one-up F.E.A.R in the scary little girl department.
And while I knew what was coming from my time is TSW I still managed to get spooked enough to momentarily get flustered and die, which annoyed me ;)

That is one hell of a mission, in all senses. I loved to hate it. :-)

Tree Of Savior works exceptionally well on the TV.

Playing with a 360 controller hooked up to my media center PC & have a Rii Mini I8 micro keyboard sitting next to me for the parts that need a mouse inpit.

A fantastical world that more than on occasions misses the point. #notamused

Edit/Clarification: Yes, I was referring to TERA here. However, there is few other games I’ve played and playing fall under this as well. :)

This is NOT a bloody jumping “puzzle” as much as an infuriating and sadistic exercise in senselessness. I honestly believe I might have quit playing Guild Wars 2 shortly after launch because of this singular exercise in futility located in The Grove.

I’ve since been able to do it (using the action camera helps), but it has not made it any easier for multiple characters to accomplish.

Many of the areas in the Grove can DIAF.

I’m aghast! ;P
I really hope you didn’t thought of this secret place, when you were writing that!

After all these years I’ve only recently discovered this little hidden sanctuary in the Grove, while finally completing a Side Story (formely known as “Current Events”) to restore/regrow Caladbolg!

Clipping and floating shoulderguards!

While in idle, Norn characters tend to stretch their shoulders, but it seems I’ve managed to create one, who also likes to stretch his eye muscles simultaneously! Every time popping his eyeballs out of their sockets! o.O

And since shoulderguards are exaggerated for male Norns anyway, but I tend to create ones with less far-out bodytypes, I’m confronted with not adjusted parts for their more reasonable sized shoulders half of the time! :/

Look, I know my character was just a few weeks old–and I know there aren’t any bathrooms in this game–but diapers?

In yesterday’s “rite of passage” article, I should’ve put “wearing a subligar” in FFXI and FFXIV.

There are a few annoying things about LOTRO‘s Mordor, mostly related to a couple bugs here and there, but I don’t have any screen shots of those and it’s nothing game breaking. On the other hand, SSG took some excellent design decisions with this expansion and I’m enjoying it a lot.

We all thought it will be interesting to see how SSG is using the freedom after finishing the main plot line of the LotR books. But it seems the most liberating aspect was to leave the civilised, realtively peaceful lands of Rohan and Gondor that we travelled for the past years. They really went crazy with some of the locations and adversaries they throw at us. And with some of the quest givers:

Oh, good, I have a great example of something that annoys me from just last night.

Invisible walls. I want this lore. I cannot get to this lore. Maybe it’s inaccessible right now or maybe I just haven’t figured out how to get close enough to grab it. Either way, there is nothing between my character that sweet, sweet buzzing except the invisible hand of geometry.

Having spent a few minutes jumping, trying different angles etc earlier, I can assure you you are not alone in being annoyed at this one.
