One Shots: Chocobo chocobo revolution

Stop it, Final Fantasy XIV. Just… stop it already. Stop being so ridiculously pretty!

I don’t need readers constantly shoving this game’s drool-worthy art style in my face, even if it has to do with oversized and overdecorated chickens. See? It even brought Toy Clown out to look amazing and make the rest of us curse the day we were born.

“Maybe this isn’t the type of beastie meant,” Toy Clown said, “but I absolutely adore my character’s chocobo in FFXIV, especially since I found out you can dye them. I have lots of other fancy mounts, from sea and air, dragons to machines, but nothing beats Romples as a companion and mount! He’s my favorite beastie (and bestie!)”

“Whales are my favorite creatures,” sent in The Lurker. “Not so fantastical but majestic and a bit rare since not that many MMO:s have a lot of marine life. Here is a Wurm Online whale following along for a while when I sailed around the world in the boat I made. Slightly later I met a sea serpent and the expedition got an abrupt and unfortunate ending.”

Here’s something new that I learned this week: Champions Online has player housing. Huh! Who knew?

Hirku know: “Why settle for a dank old cave when you can have a luxury penthouse for a hideout? I’ve been enjoying Champions Online so much that I decided a bit of splurging was in order. I love this housing not just for the gameplay benefits and the little touches like functional plumbing, but because it’s the first housing system I’ve tried that doesn’t make me feel like I’m locked away in a solo instance (even though I am). Not only do I have windows, I have super ginormous windows, and outside is the full 3-D city complete with ambient sounds and a full day/night cycle. Yeah, it’s good to be the super king.”

Last week I asked readers to show off their favorite MMO critters and beasts. Reader Hikari had a different — and perhaps more interesting — take on this challenge.

“For me, it has to be the The Filth in Secret World Legends,” Hikari said. “More than your stereotypical creeping evil, it is the thing that crawls in your skin and destroys your mind. It, They and Them thinks and are alive, but are merely the dreams and nightmares of a greater unknown. It seeps into every thing, every wavelength, every thought. They eat stars for breakfast… and we are all made of stars.”

Then there’s this World of Warcraft pic from BalsBigBrother:

*clears throat & sings*

High on a hill was a wayward goatherd
Lay ee odl lay ee odl lay hee hoo
Loud was the voice of the wayward goatherd
Lay ee odl lay ee odl-oo

*Off screen* “Will you be quiet I am trying to take screen shots here”

Wayward goatherd: Um … oh sorry I didn’t see you there *blushes*

Seen any good explosions lately, chemical or magical? It’s always really tough to get one of those in the thick of the action, but if you have a neat screenshot showing some epic ka-blewie, let’s see it for this week’s challenge!

Every week, One Shots shines a spotlight on the best community screenshots from your MMO adventures. If you have a great pic to share, email it to justin@massivelyop.com with the subject “One Shots.” Make sure that the picture is over 880px wide and comes with a description or story!
