One Shots: Today’s forecast is foggy with a light chance of dragons

The other day I was at the zoo watching a Siberian Tiger stalk around its exhibit, and I was thinking, “If I encountered that thing in the wild, I would nope out of Russia so fast that it would leave skid marks.”

Now, just imagine what it’s like to live in countries where seeing dragons casually flapping around the place. What would that do for one’s psyche?

Hikari brings us this headlining picture from Black Desert, where the viewer prays and hopes the dragon doesn’t look in this direction. At least there’s a bit of fog to help hide us tender meatsacks.

We had a pretty good time of sharing our favorite cozy spots from MMORPGs last week, with Toy Clown leading the way with one of several Final Fantasy XIV contributions. I guess it’s a cozy-looking game!

“It doesn’t matter the MMO, I’m attracted to the brilliant, warm hues that happen in the early stages of a sunset, such as from this scene in Limsa Lomisa.”

Meanwhile at a FFXIV tropical resort, Josh is preparing for the sunburn to end all sunburns. Make sure to cast SUNBLK3!

“Nothing warmer or cozier than the beach right?” Josh asked.

Lucky Jinx was relishing the freedom of flight in World of Warcraft: “When I want to take a moment and basically do nothing, my favorite pastime is to explore the land. Nothing better than a Druid for this job.”

Secret World Legends’ revamp of its central hub continues to be controversial — and photogenic.

“Here I am sitting by the cozy fire,” Sleepy shared, “staring off into the unknowable depths of Agartha, and trying to forgive Funcom for turning it into a shopping mall.”

This week’s screenshot challenge is another call to share pictures of your favorite pets — vanity or combat! What ball of fluff will love you and die for you if necessary?

Every week, One Shots shines a spotlight on the best community screenshots from your MMO adventures. If you have a great pic to share, email it to justin@massivelyop.com with the subject “One Shots.” Make sure that the picture is over 880px wide and comes with a description or story!

I always wanted an Asura as a pet. It would be like your inner critic given form. Small, cute, sarcastic form.

What is my favorite pet… hm, probably the Lore-Master’s sparrow in LotRO, who lands when you not moving and sings sweetly. The LM non-combat pets are a relic of the bygone days when LotRO didn’t have a general pet system. I named mine Jack, because I have no taste.

But on consideration, a more interesting option was in STO. I recalled that years ago, you could deploy all the space pets you had at the same time. It’s been years since then, and… well, I have a lot more starship pets now. So I headed out to the moody background of the Mutara Nebula.

Yes, you can still deploy all the pets you like. In my case, a fleet of 11.

Since I mentioned my sparrow, it would be rude not to include a picture.

The nice thing about being a LM is that the old pet system and the new are not mutually exclusive, so I can have two out at once. The cat is Morrigan.

(Actually, I could have three out at once with an LM combat pet… but this character is retired, and no longer specced correctly.)

As you can see he doesn’t like Argonians, he’s racist.

He’s adorable. I have a hard time keeping my PC clean of hairs from these two, but it’s worth it :)

Wow, that’s a cute cat! Difficult to stay mad at that face, even if he does tromp all over your gaming setup! :-)

While looking through an old computer device, I found this relic of my earliest days in Star Trek Online.

STO released to the public on PC in early February, 2010, but this screenshot is dated from December 18th, 2009, so it’s from my time in the beta and/or early-access.

If memory serves, this scene is from one of the earliest iterations of the game’s Federation tutorial mission.

That’s my current Star Trek Online main character, standing there with his back to the camera.

What I realize looking at this screenshot now is how far the game’s graphics and design have improved in the years since launch.

Sure, some of the primitive vibe in this pic owes to the fact that I was using an older computer rig at the time, with a fairly crappy video card, but the game itself has quietly evolved its visuals by leaps and bounds since those earliest days.

Cheers,

Secret

What a perfect opportunity to show off some of the finest pets my WoW hunter has in store. :)

The first one is a white hippogryph that is part of the feathermane family (requires the tome of hybrid taming from hunter class hall, Legion)

The second one is a beautiful steed that sometimes runs around on one of the small islands by Broken Shore. She is a world quest objective.

The third one is none other than Rukhmar! A world boss circling the skies in the Spires of Arak (Draenor). She was recently made tamable, so of course I had to take my chances and go after her.

In the distant past, on the isle of the dead, father and son look at their creation. Their descendants have created the Interface Crafter Golem, and you know what? “Statistically speaking, this is rather rare!” Or so the Asurans would say.

I have an additional question: how does that gorilla pet fly? Does it levitate, or have wings that we can’t see here. or what?

Cheers!

Toy Clown

Do you know how Santa’s reindeer take off running then glide up into the sky while still hoofing it? That’s kind of how it’s like with the gorilla! On descent its limbs sort of dangle in the air, except for the one holding the character.

A pet? Why not ALL the pets? Okay, so herding them for pictures isn’t exactly easy.

Judging by the sheer number of creatures present, Hikari, I suspect that your character is the actual pet here … :-D
