There’s been a lot of hay to make when it comes to Palia over the past few months, but I don’t think anyone really expected the news of studio Singularity 6 getting bought by Daybreak. On the bright side, that does mean that the new owners are promising to bring the game to launch, so that’s something!
Meanwhile, The Quinfall is promising that its closed beta is starting very soon. This is fine, since even as they move into closed beta The First Descendant moves into the lands of launch for real, a launch that seems to have been a bit on the messy side but was at least popular! Corepunk also entered into its third alpha test, and when I asked Chris how it was going he uttered a bunch of words I can’t really print here. So I’m guessing that means nothing but good things!
“Are we really going to just assume that’s good and move on?” We sure are, dear readers! We’re going to move right on to our roundup of beta news from the past week as well as our full list of games in testing below that. As always, if something has changed status without us noticing or if something is missing from the list, let us know in the comments!
We consider an MMO to be in open testing if it features free, public signups and will server wipe prior to launch. An MMO is marked in closed testing if it’s running a private test phase that cannot freely be accessed by the general public; it’s often under NDA as well. Early access and crowdfunded MMOs whose tests we deem legitimate will be included. So-called “open beta” soft-launch MMOs with cash shops, no sign of launch in the west, or limited interest for our readers will not be listed, nor will games that are NFT/blockchain scams; we also do not list expansions, with occasional exceptions. Finally, we’ll mark games “malingering” if they’ve been in a certain tier of development for a long time with no clear path to launch.

Yes, MMO gamers, you too can perform the unpaid quality-control work otherwise known as game testing! Check out Massively Overpowered’s Betawatch every week for a run-down of MMOs that are still on the road to launch, even if they appear to have set up a permanent residence in a shed called early access.
