Yesterday was the curtain call for Destiny 2 and its regular patches as it now officially moves into maintenance mode, as the looter shooter’s Monument of Triumph mega-update went live yesterday bringing a raucous close to the game’s journey.
The past 24 hours or so saw a massive number of players on Steam alone, with 167,867 concurrency in the shooter’s past 24-hour peak, surpassing Marathon’s all-time peak on the platform of over 88K. As one might expect, this caused the game to buckle, effectively making good on fans’ plans to crush the servers as Bungie worked through the issues that sprang up.
Initial reaction to the update appears to be extremely effusive, with the game’s subreddit absolutely awash with praise for the content drop, while recent Steam reviews lift the game up to a “mostly positive” user score. “I would’ve paid for an update like this. This is Destiny 2.5,” reads one such post.
Meanwhile, Bungie is offering some goodbyes of its own, as the game’s audio team thanked fans for the support while also releasing the complete Monument of Triumph soundtrack on YouTube. “We hope you enjoy this collection of music as you continue your journey in Destiny 2 and beyond,” the post reads. “Thank you for being a Guardian.”
In what’s perhaps an unsurprising reveal (or flagrant final cash grab depending on your point of view), Bungie also put out a full bundle that packs in every expansion and DLC ever released for the game, so if you happened to have been on the fence for anything offered, now appears to be the right time.
