One Shots: The pity violin

Screenshots often tell a story — or a part of one, at least. They invite us into a moment of a gamer’s journey, leaving us to empathize and speculate what we would do if faced with the same situation. I’ve seen a lot of brutal scenarios in my day, but this may be the worst of them all.

“Dealing with rejection is hard enough,” reader Zepheera submitted. “But when your medieval request for the innkeeper’s hand in Aion is met with the father’s stern stare to the accompaniment of sad music from the Lady herself… well, it’s enough to order up another ale. If only there was another pub in town.”

The woe! The pathos! The crossed arms of disapproval!

Reader Siphaed sent in a virtual avalanche of Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns screenshots, and out of the bunch I picked this striking yellow-tinged one. Whether or not you like this game, it’s hard to argue that there isn’t some serious artistic genius at works in the visuals.

“This was my Halloween costume in The Secret World this year,” reader Dajhryne sent in. “Mummified royalty is trending!”

Yeah, dude, you really might want to invest in a couple of vats of healing lotion for that dry skin. The desert is not kind to the fairer amongst us.

There’s a definite ramping up of curiosity concerning Blade and Soul, especially with its western launch coming in about a month. So I expect to see more pictures like this from readers such as John. I expect it… or the seal will meet his doom. Capiche?

“I didn’t really grab any great screenshots when I was tooling around in the weekend beta but I know you’re always looking for some,” John wrote. “Here is my Kung Fu Master (how can you NOT play a class called that?) on a bridge, looking at birds apparently.”

A few weeks ago, several of our commenters were sharing screenshots of piles of dead mobs in Star Wars: The Old Republic that happened due to a buggy (overambitious?) respawn timer. I picked one from Qarran for today’s It Came from the Screenshots! winner. You can’t even see the ground!

We’re still collecting submissions for our special holiday edition of One Shots, so if you have a winter-themed or Christmasy screenshot, send it in as soon as possible! Thank you!

Every week, One Shots shines a spotlight on the best community screenshots from your MMO adventures. If you have a great pic to share, email it to justin@massivelyop.com with the subject “One Shots.” Make sure that the picture is over 880px wide and comes with a description or story!
