The blogosphere is buzzing about the recent release of FFXIV: Dawntrail, including The Nosy Gamer, who provided some first thoughts and impressions of this expansion.

“The devs decided to show off the new engine on the ocean voyage from Old Sharlayan to Tuliyollal. I have never seen a video game look so gorgeous. Admittedly I don’t don’t play a lot of video game, but this was special.”

Going Commando summed up the good and bad from SWTOR’s Galactic Season 6: “Unfortunately Season 6’s story was nothing like [Season 5]. It still came with three missions that you unlocked as you progressed along the reward track, but they didn’t feel like part of a coherent whole, offered no choices, and didn’t come to any kind of real conclusion.”

Gnomecore has thoughts on FFXIV’s two new jobs: “Pictomancer is why I love FFXIV in general: the game is not afraid to be silly, fun silly in a serious setting. It’s a caster (I always love the role in any game), it’s quirky, colorful and quite exciting.”

The Ancient Gaming Noob mulled over the Stars Reach announcement: “The other view is that Stars Reach is going to spend a stretch in early access, everybody’s favorite ‘I’ve shipped something you’re not allowed to criticize’ state of lingering video game purgatory.”

Meghan Plays Games tried to suss out the difference between cozy and comfort gaming: “These two terms might seem similar enough to be interchangeable, but when we’re talking about video games specifically, I think there’s a world of difference between the two.”

Inventory Full offered a take on Wuthering Waves’ gameplay: “So, I am not going to start explaining how the game works because a) it’s super complicated, b) there’s still way more I don’t understand than I do, and c) no-one cares. But I can tell you I bumbled around and clicked on stuff until at least enough came clear that I was able to move forward. It’s a method I use a lot.”

Blessing of Kings looked at the evolution of Diablo IV’s first year: “I think Blizzard is on the right track with Diablo IV. The aesthetic (and trading?) of D2, the gameplay and power of D3, with a bit smoother scaling, is proving to be quite fun. If Blizzard keeps on this track, I think the upcoming expansion should be quite good.”
